Thermostat Installation

We install basic, programmable and smart thermostats in Lago Vista, and the right one depends on your system. If you have a heat pump, a propane furnace, or an older thermostat with no C-wire, the setup matters more than the brand. We check your wiring and equipment first, install it, set it up for how your system actually runs, and show you how to use it before we leave.

You get a written price before we start. No pressure, no upsell.

What happens on a smart thermostat visit

  1. We look at your equipment: heat pump or furnace, and how many stages it has.

  2. We photograph and label the old wires, and check whether you have a C-wire.

  3. We shut off power at the breaker, not just at the thermostat.

  4. We mount and wire the new thermostat.

  5. We set it up for your equipment: heat pump settings, backup heat, fan behavior.

  6. We connect it to your Wi-Fi and get the app working on your phone.

  7. We test cooling, heating and fan before we leave.

  8. We walk you through the schedule and show you what to do if the power blinks.

Which type of thermostat do I need?

  • Basic digital: a plain screen and manual settings. Fine for a simple system or a rarely used home.

  • Programmable: runs a schedule you set. It only helps if the schedule matches how you live.

  • Smart (Wi-Fi): adds phone control, alerts and usage information. Most need constant power from a C-wire, and a heat pump needs the right setup.

Not sure? Tell us about your system when you call and we will point you to the simplest option that fits.

When should I replace my thermostat?

The screen is blank. Check the batteries and your breaker first, because a dead screen is often not the thermostat itself. The temperature on the screen may not match how the room feels, or the system may not hold the temperature you set. You may have just had a new AC or heat pump installed, or you may want to control the system from your phone.

Will a smart thermostat work with my system?

Usually yes. Here is what to know for the systems we see most in Lago Vista.

  • Heat pump (common in Lago Vista): needs a heat-pump-rated thermostat set up for the reversing valve and backup heat. A wrong setup can run expensive electric backup heat or blow cool air when you want heat. We set it up and test both modes.

  • Electric or propane furnace with AC: works with most smart thermostats. We confirm the wiring first.

  • Older home with no C-wire: most smart thermostats need constant 24-volt power. The fix is a spare wire already in the wall, an adapter at the air handler, or new thermostat wire. We check for a spare first.

  • Two systems (upstairs and downstairs): each system needs its own thermostat.

  • Zoned system: the thermostat has to work with your zone panel. Tell us the panel brand when you call.

  • Ductless mini-split: these usually run on their own remote or app, and a standard wall thermostat often will not control them. Call us with the model and we will tell you what it supports.

Lake and weekend homes: know what your house is doing while you're away

A lot of Lago Vista homes sit empty for stretches. A smart thermostat can alert your phone if the house gets too hot or too cold, so you hear about a problem from the app and not from a neighbor. In summer we still recommend leaving the AC on rather than fully off, since humidity builds fast in a closed-up house. Lago Vista has also seen hard freezes, so a low-temperature alert is worth setting before you leave in winter.

What does thermostat installation cost in Lago Vista?

We give you a written price before any work starts, and you decide whether to go ahead. Our trip charge is $65 and is applied toward the work when you schedule. What moves the price: the thermostat model, and whether your home needs wiring work such as adding a C-wire.

Are there rebates for a smart thermostat?

Some electric utilities offer smart thermostat programs, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) serves much of the Lago Vista area. Check pec.coop for whatever is current, because programs and rules change and some only cover certain models. PEC has also offered rebates on qualifying new AC and heat pump systems, which matters if your system is due for replacement.

Can I install a smart thermostat myself?

Sometimes. If you have one AC and furnace system, a C-wire is already there, and you are swapping one digital thermostat for another, many homeowners do it. Shut off the breaker for your system first, photograph the wires before you remove anything, and go by the terminal labels, not wire colors.

Call us if you have a heat pump, a zoned system, no C-wire, or wiring that does not match the new thermostat. Also call if your old thermostat was dead when you found it, because a blank screen is often a symptom of something else.
